‘Loss’: “A beacon of originality in a tiresome sea of dross.” – Q (2001)
‘Us’: “A joyous slice of orchestral Prozac.” – NME (2003)
‘This Is Hope’: “A great album… melodies with the sticking power of industrial strength Velcro.” – NME (2004)

‘City Awakenings’: “Finds the Tobermory troubadour sounding revitalised and melodically on his richest form in years.” – Sunday Times Culture (2012)

Colin MacIntyre – also known as Mull Historical Society – has earned on-going critical acclaim for his six albums to date. To mark the fifteenth anniversary of the debut MHS single ‘Barcode Bypass’, MacIntyre will release his ‘Best Of’ compilation on 27th April 2015 on Xtra Mile Recordings. A special double-vinyl format of the album will also be available on 18th April 2015 as part of this year’s Record Store Day celebrations.

‘The Best Of’ collates material from all six of MacIntyre’s albums to date, stretching from ‘Barcode Bypass’ through to ‘The Lights’ and ‘Fold Out City’ which featured on the 2012 album ‘City Awakenings’. Along the way, it features numerous fan favourites and career highlights such as ‘Watching Xanadu’, ‘The Final Arrears’, ‘How ‘Bout I Love You More’, ‘You’re A Star’ and ‘Out Stealing Horses’, a collaboration with King Creosote. The album concludes with ‘Pay Attention To The Human’, which is a unique collaboration with the late, great Tony Benn.

In addition, the album also features the brand new single ‘Keep Falling’ which was produced by the Grammy-winning Dom Morley (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Grinderman), who MacIntyre previously worked with on ‘City Awakenings’. ‘Keep Falling’ will be released on 27th April 2015.

“I can recognise now that the past two years has been one of the biggest creative surges,” said MacIntyre. “It reminds me of the period leading up to my first album ‘Loss’, where I first found an authentic sound and voice.”

This Spring will also deliver a new MHS full band tour in which ‘Loss’ – MacIntyre’s 100,000-selling, Q Best Debut Album of 2001 – will be played in full for the first time, alongside other favourites from MacIntyre’s rich back catalogue. He adds: “This will be a celebratory tour. Playing ‘Loss’ will be an emotional life-flashing-before-my-eyes journey, but I can’t wait.” The tour will run as scheduled below…

In addition, MacIntyre has also recently revealed himself as being the brainchild behind INK, the enigmatic and exciting new electronic music project which was recently selected as a Guardian New Band of the Week and a Q Track of the Day. The Guardian described INK as being: “Perfect without being too box-ticking – they are going to be massive.”

Outside of music, MacIntyre has also recently announced the 14th May 2015 release date of his debut novel ‘The Letters of Ivor Punch’ which is now available to pre-order and will be published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson of the Orion Publishing Group. Hilarious and heartfelt, rowdy and true, ‘The Letters of Ivor Punch’ is a novel about fathers and sons, secrets and lies and how, sometimes, you have to leave home to know what home is. A MHS track of the same name will be released to coincide with the book’s publication.
