OXYGEN THIEF - NEW 5-TRACK EP ‘ONE DAY THIS WILL ALL BE FIELDS’

OXYGEN THIEF
NEW 5-TRACK EP ‘ONE DAY THIS WILL ALL BE FIELDS’
Plus InMe support tour in May (full-band) and acoustic solo dates for March/April

Oxygen Thief returns to his acoustic roots with new 5-track EP 'One Day This Will All Be Fields' released through Xtra Mile Recordings on 24th March 2014.

Following his first full-band release 'Accidents Do Not Happen, They Are Caused' in December 2013, Barry Dolan (AKA Oxygen Thief) has switched to his previous (dis)comfort zone of "one man genre" aggressive acoustic riffery.
Armed with over an album's worth of new songs, he chose five to lead the charge ahead of a full record, likely to follow in the summer.

"Some of the tracks will end up being re-interpreted by the band in the same way that older ones were for ADNHTAC, while the rest will only be on the EP,” explains Barry. “In a way, I see the acoustic recordings as being the 'proper' versions of the songs, and anything we do with them later on will be embellishments. When we started the band, we agreed that I wouldn't change anything about the way I wrote; all the songs would start out solo acoustic, I'd perform and record them that way, and we would then see where switching to electric guitar would take them."

Those buying the CD edition, or downloading directly from Xtra Mile Recordings, will receive two bonus tracks - a cover of 'Suckerpunch' by The Wildhearts ("my favourite song ever, containing my favourite riff ever" - Barry) and live favourite 'On Your Easy Marks, Get Set, Go', a tale of political frustration and ideological betrayal in the form of a furious singalong.

The new EP was recorded at The Old Blacksmith's Studios, where the full-band mini-album was birthed. It's a contrast from the early days of recording solo at home, the preferred studio for the three-way split EP ('!@*#' or 'Exclamation At Asterisk Hash') in 2009 with Ben Marwood and Jim Lockey, and Oxygen Thief's first foray with Xtra Mile. Since that frothing introduction, Barry has taken his furious steel-string slashing on tour with Frank Turner, Jamie Lenman, Ben Marwood, Jonah Matranga and punctuated festival lineups at T in the Park, 2000Trees and ArcTanGent.

Oxygen Thief has also announced a prized support slot, with full-band, for InMe in May, to add to Barry's solo shows in March and April.

TIM BARRY - Summer UK tour announced

Following the release of his fifth album '40 Miler', ex-Avail singer Tim Barry is set to brings his earnest, poignant, and riotous songs back to the UK for an extensive June tour.

Richmond, Virginia-based singer-songwriter Tim Barry last joined our very own Frank Turner on tour last Autumn in the UK and Europe, sharing his blues, folk, and country-tinged sound with an appreciative audience. This time, dates will be more intimate for what will be an incredible evening of powerful storytelling and heartfelt sing-a-longs.
Full tour dates are:

Tim Barry has long left behind his harder edged music, but not the soul or passion which fueled it. One of his songs, 'Prosser's Gabriel', led to a freedom fighting slave's final resting place from the 1800s being turned from a car park into a park memorial to honour his name. If that's not powerful songwriting, then music means nothing to anyone.

He's also released a video which has been inspired by a loved one who passed away in 2008. 'Shed Song' from his last album, and its video, will prepare you for what to expect when he arrives in the UK. The video can be seen here:

Fighting With Wire - New single available now & new album 24th September

New single ‘Waiting On A Way To Believe’ out 9th July 2012
New album ‘Colonel Blood’ out 24th September 2012.

Northern Ireland trio Fighting With Wire are set to unleash their brand new single ‘Waiting On A Way To Believe’ on 9th July 2012 through Xtra Mile Recordings.

FWW(use this one)
A direct and fast-paced anthem in the making, with driving rock riffs and instantly memorable melodies it is the first track to be taken from the band’s forthcoming second album ‘Colonel Blood’ – the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut ‘MAN VS MONSTER’. An enormous-sounding, stadium-filling collection of heavy rock songs, ‘Colonel Blood’ is packed with belting riffs, brutal rhythmic attacks and sing along choruses. Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with Nick Raskulinecz (Deftones, Foo Fighters, Danzig) together they’ve created a straight-up rock record that delivers punch after punch of tuneful, energetic, upbeat and damn right catchy songs.

Lead guitarist and vocalist Cahir O’Doherty explains: “With this new record we really focused on the songs, we're all influenced by early 90's American rock so making this record we tried to give that 90's sound a modern makeover. It was great working with Nick Raskulinecz in Nashville, he really got what we were trying to do and helped us make this record sound huge.”

Already this year the band have toured with revered metal pioneers Helmet, as well as completing their own UK headline tour and with the new album poised and ready to be unveiled, it’s going to be a very exciting year for this hard working trio from Derry.

Fighting With Wire are Rock Sound magazine’s ’Band Of The Week’ you can read the feature and listen to ‘Waiting on a Way to Believe’ here: http://bit.ly/Nlmzso

Press reviews for MAN VS MONSTER

“absolutely phenomenal from the start to the end, a flawless modern rock record…” BBC Radio 1 Zane

"are living proof that despite the gazillions already used you can still come up with a fucking great band name if you try. More importantly the music matches; vicious and stinging in parts but applied with dexterity and finesse." KERRANG!

"these three guys make enough noise to drown out an Armageddon-scale nuclear attack... against a seething mass of generic and unoriginal rock and indie bands." Rocksound

Frank Turner - New single ‘I Still Believe’/’Somebody To Love’ released 21st April 2012.

Frank Turner 2010
Following Frank Turner’s epic headline show at London’s Wembley Arena on 13th April 2012, a very special limited edition double A-side 7” single of ‘I Still Believe’/Somebody To Love’ will hit the shops for this year’s Record Store Day.

A rousing declaration of Frank’s unwavering faith in music ‘I Still Believe’ is a call to arms for those who are enraptured by the simplicity and power of “guitar and drums and desperate poetry”. A live favourite, this track has had crowds all over the world passionately shouting the title refrain creating the unity and solidarity so distinctive to Frank’s gigs.

His cover of Queen’s ‘Somebody To Love’ has also become a live classic since he first performed it in the UK during his secret set on the Lock Up Stage at Reading & Leeds in 2011. Having performed on the Main Stage earlier on in the day, his second set was a triumphant show full of surprises and joy, and became one of the main talking points of the weekend.
This is the first time Frank has laid down this track and it is only available on this release.
It will be released digitally on 30th April 2012.

‘I Still Believe’ is lifted from the Top 12 album ‘England Keep My Bones’ – Frank’s most successful album to date and soon to be certified Silver status for UK sales. Previous single ‘Wessex Boy’, was added to the Radio 1 B-list, 6Music A-list and XFM daytime playlist.

Frank’s only London headline show in 2012 at Wembley Arena is very close to selling out but a very few tickets are still available. The one and only Billy Bragg will be special guest, and the incomparable talents of Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobias Pip and Beans On Toast also join the line-up.
It’s going to be a corker!
And as attention turns to the summer, Frank is excited to announce that he will be performing at this year’s V Festival and headlining the Beautiful Days Festival, both in August. More festival news to come.

Live reviews from November 2011 UK headline tour:
“The singer-songwriter is finally graduating from a cult concern to a mainstream success.” Evening Standard 4/5

“For a singer soon to headline Wembley Arena, Frank Turner has remained remarkably under the radar. That, you suspect is where the 29-year-old from Hampshire would be happy to stay. His fans, however are having none of it.” Times 4/5

“…the former Million Dead frontman turned rabble rousing solo singer songwriter inspires overhead handclaps and massed chants to every single song, and a phenomenal atmosphere of togetherness and unity.” Independent on Sunday

Reviews of ‘England Keep My Bones’:
“Turner proves himself an accomplished and impassioned storyteller. Stirring stuff.” Q 4 stars
"a fearless venture for an artist with something interesting to say" 8/10 NME
"The wonderfully titled England Keep My Bones' features some of the finest songs Frank has yet written." 4/5 Kerrang!
"One of the UK's greatest songwriting talents...these songs will be soundtracking many of our lives for years to come." Rocksound 9/10
"The high priest of protest song sings on." Evening Standard 3/5
"Four albums into his solo career..."folk punk" man looks poised for a breakout beyond his loyal following." Observer
"this is an exuberant yet quietly sophisticated triumph" BBC online

Future of the Left - Sign to Xtra Mile Recordings & release brand new 6 track EP

FOTL - live pic
We at Xtra Mile HQ are absolutely over the freakin moon to announce the addition of Future Of The Left to the XM family. We can find no better way to get our exciting news out there than in the words of the band themselves...so over to you Falco....

“Zero Hour.

(drum roll) ...

An EP, titled 'Polymers are Forever' will be released on 14th November on Xtra Mile (Britain and Europe) with an initial small amount of imports being shoveled the way of the USA to be released on Xtra Mile US, that land mass which is a little to the left of Wales. Pleased doesn't quite cover it. The possibilities, literally, are end-ful.

Running order is 'polymers are forever', 'with apologies to emily pankhurst', 'new adventures', 'my wife is unhappy', 'dry hate' and 'destroywhitchurch.com'. It has a running time somewhere in the region of twenty one minutes and is 'very nice' ((c) my mother, last week).
The first three songs are taken from the album sessions (more of this later) whilst the final three are earlier demos we didn't have the time, money or inclination to re-record. At this stage I have no earthly idea if the EP will end up being pressed on vinyl but the chances, as ever, are dramatically increased the more people ask.

Just saying.

'polymers are forever' will appear on the album 'the plot against common sense', which will be released in early 2012. More about this later. We are really VERY VERY HAPPY with this record, which is perhaps ONE DAY away from being finished (whenever we can fit that in). I would like to apologise in advance to my bandmates and the cat for how drunk I get upon its completion.

The following live dates are confirmed before the end of the year -

20th November Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach (No, really?) with Saturdays Kids and one more TBC, tickets
26th November Leeds, Cockpit (supports unconfirmed at this stage), tickets
29th November London, Hoxton Bar and Kitchen with Saturdays Kids and Fever Fever. tickets

Australian dates are as follows -

4th December Perth, Rosemount
6th December Brisbane, The Zoo
8th December Sydney, Annandale Hotel
9th-11th December Meredith Music Festival 16th December Melbourne, The Corner

Best link for tickets for these little bastards is http://handsometours.com/upcoming-tours/future-of-the-left

Really. Can't wait. For all of it.

I appreciate your patience. Rather than blogging (and yes, I still hate that word) throughout the year in a non-commital manner I thought it best to wait until there was something solid to tell you. 'Hey guys
- big news coming IN SIX OR SEVEN MONTHS' doesn't really cut it around my face. Or, indeed, my balls.(*6)

More to fellow follow.

F**K THE FIRE - Xtra Mile Recordings team up with PledgeMusic to launch new campaign

xtramile website grey
We, at London based indie label Xtra Mile Recordings, are offering friends, supporters and music lovers everywhere the chance to participate in something truly special….

Home to Frank Turner, The Xcerts, Crazy Arm, Chris T-T, Jim Ward (former At The Drive-In and Sparta guitarist/songwriter), Dave Hause (The Loved Ones), Sophie Madeleine and previously Million Dead and Reuben to name just a few, we have an eclectic roster of hard working and inspiring acts that we are all very proud to be working with. However, during the London Riots in August we watched our stock go up in flames as a fire tore down the Sony DADC Warehouse that housed [PIAS], a large distributor of over 150 independent record labels. All in all, millions of pounds worth of stock from Independent labels turned to ashes, including all Xtra Mileʼs new releases, limited editions and back catalogue.

Not ones to choke on this misfortune though, we are turning this unfortunate state of affairs into a positive and together with our friends at PledgeMusic we have formed an exciting direct-to-fan campaign.

We’re inviting fans to tell us what stock they would like us to replenish from our extensive catalogue and if we reach our targets…weʼll get re-pressing right then and there! This project is a fantastic opportunity to pre-order some key releases and request new formats of old favourites.
Quite simply: Enough people want it? Weʼll make it.

I Am The Avalanche sign to Xtra Mile Recordings and announce details of second album

It is with great pride that Xtra Mile Recordings can reveal that the brilliant I Am The Avalanche have joined the label and will be releasing their long awaited second album ‘AVALANCHE UNITED’ in the Autumn.

The quintet from Brooklyn, New York join a roster that includes Frank Turner, Crazy Arm and The Xcerts as well as fellow American’s Dave Hause, Jim Ward and Against Me! Frontman Vinnie Caruana says: “We are extremely excited to be working with Xtra Mile on the release of AVALANCHE UNITED. It’s an honour to be part of a label and roster with such integrity and style. Cheers to the future!”

‘AVALANCHE UNITED’ is the album fans have been waiting on for over six years. Vinnie Caruana (vocals), Brandon Swanson (guitar), Michael Ireland (guitar), Brett “The Ratt” Romnes (drums) and Kellen Robson (bass) formed I Am the Avalanche in the fall of 2004 and quickly released their debut self-titled album in 2005. They toured the world relentlessly in support of this album, which became a cult favorite among fans and the band’s peers, and with popularity and respect from the punk rock community through Caruana’s previous band The Movielife, IATA soon established their own intensely dedicated following around the globe.
In 2006, IATA began writing and demoing new music for their follow-up album. Despite the odd rare live performance they decided to return to their DIY roots and become self-managed, self-booked and almost completely on their own so they could be laser-focused on writing the best album of their careers.

Six years after the release of their debut album, IATA have returned with just that. Set for release on 10th October 2011, produced by the band, and executive produced and engineered by their prolific drummer Brett “The Ratt” Romnes and mixed by Machine (Fall Out Boy, Every Time I Die, Four Year Strong), AVALANCHE UNITED is addictively melodic and blisteringly raw to its very core. Featuring 12 anthemic songs, the album includes ‘Brooklyn Dodgers’, the bold ‘Holy Fuck’, the epic and somber ‘Dead Friends’ and ‘The Gravedigger’s Argument’ featuring Anthony Raneri from Bayside. Throughout, Caruana’s distinctive voice drips with defiance, humor and proud vulnerability as he sings about hope, heartbreak, death, defying adversity and the bonds between family, lovers and friends.

And just seconds into first listening to AVALANCHE UNITED, it’ll be immediately clear that I Am the Avalanche are back with one of punk’s most powerful albums in years, unbroken and unbowed.

The band will be coming over to the UK and Europe later on in the year for a run of headline shows – more information on that to follow soon.

A Silent Film - Success in America and Portugal sees the re-release of debut album ‘The City That Sleeps’ on 27th September

The last year has been a rather busy for Oxford’s A Silent Film. Originally releasing their debut album ‘The City That Sleeps’ just over a year ago in the UK the band have been busy building strong foundations on other shores.

A Silent Film - City That Sleeps new

The initial UK release of ‘The City That Sleeps’ saw A Silent Film being handpicked by BBC Introducing to play Glastonbury and gain critical acclaim and support of highly regarded DJs (Steve Lamacq, John Kennedy…). The release was followed by a release and tour in Portugal where A Silent Film quickly gained support with Portuguese daytime radio and after only a matter of weeks the band had a Number 1 Download single with ‘You Will Leave a Mark’ (beating Leona Lewis, Coldplay and The Script to the top spot) with the album following suit. Their raised profile resulted in the band being booked to play major festivals including Lisbon’s Optimus Alive festival alongside Metallica.

A Silent FIlm’s popularity soon resonated to the US where they picked up a licensing deal and released ‘The City That Sleeps’. The band are currently riding high on US radio with ‘You Will Leave A Mark’ being the most requested song on KROQ following its success as a iTunes Discovery Download.

‘The City That Sleeps’ is a topically diverse magnum opus of contemporary narrative, covering everything from love, loss and the human condition to racial divides and the anguish of war in modern society. An emotionally driven, genre-defying masterpiece to invigorate the senses and reiterate the importance of individualism that many have sadly forgotten.

The special re-release of ‘The City That Sleeps’ sees the addition of two brand new tracks ('Driven by their Beating Hearts’ and ‘Firefly in my Window’ which have been proving highlights in the band recent performances abroad. The album (and additional recordings) is produced by Sam Williams (Plan B, The Noisettes).

‘The City That Sleeps’ is released on 27th September as a CD and download through Xtra Mile Recordings (Far, The Xcerts, Frank Turner…).

‘The City That Sleeps’ tracklisting:

1. Driven by their Beating Hearts
2. Sleeping Pills
3. You Will Leave a Mark
4. Thirteen Times the Strength
5. Julie June
6. One Wrong Door
7. Firefly in my Window
8. Lamplight
9. Feather White
10. Aurora

“They won’t be silent for long..." - The Fly
“Gently weaving intricately constructed tales, this DIY piano-led quartet from Oxford produce larger than life cinematic soundscapes, rolling from trance-like distortion to superbly focused piano and electric guitar hooks.” – Rock Sound

The Xcerts - Release new single 'Young (Belane)' on 27th September and second album 'Scatterbrain' on 4th October through Xtra Mile Recordings

The Xcerts - Scatterbrain

THE XCERTS return with their second album and follow up to 2009's 'In The Cold Wind We Smile'; 'Scatterbrain' will be release on the 4th October through Xtra Mile Recordings (Frank Turner, Reuben, Far, Straight Lines...) preceeded by new single 'Young (Belane)' a week earlier.

'Scatterbrain' is the first album by a UK act to be overseen by US producer Mike Sapone (Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Crime in Stereo...) who began work on the record with the band at his home studio in Bethpage, New York earlier this year. Mastered by Emily Lazar (Anti-Flag, Vampire Weekend, David Bowie...), the album shows an angrier side to the band's music which harks back to the early days of 90's Grunge. It has a brilliantly sinister, dirty and earthy quality without turning its back on the pop-sensibilities and catchy melodies that the band captured so well with their debut.

Speaking of the record frontman Murray Macleod says "If we didn't sound different, I'd be worried". The first album was - as for most new bands - something of a 'greatest hits' from the band's early years, when they were still finding their feet. This time, the album was almost entirely written in a six-week break between tours and as a result paints a much more vibrant picture; a single body of work that makes sense; a proper album that it would seem blasphemous to shuffle.

The influences have changed too. "There are certain records that we're all really into that have a similar sound - a balance of raw emotion and good production. 'In Utero' by Nirvana, 'Pinkerton' by Weezer, 'Either/Or' by Elliot Smith, 'The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me' by Brand New, 'Nebraska' by Bruce Springsteen and 'For Emma Forever Ago' by Bon Iver. That's pretty much exactly how we wanted this record to sound."

"There's a lot of experimentation on this album," says Macleod, who credits Sapone for encouraging and cultivating the creative process. "He came up with crazy ideas, and watching him come out with them, I didn't feel worried about throwing an idea into the hat. It was almost like Mike was the fourth member of the band - there's parts that would never happened, had we not worked with Mike."

"This is an album lover's album for the fans of the band. It's not about a particular track or single and should be listened too as an entire body of work with an open mind. We hope everyone falls in love with it like we have."

'Scatterbrain' track listing:

1. Tar
2. Scatterbrain
3. Distant Memory
4. Gum
5. Slackerpop
6. I Scare Easy
7. Young (Belane)
8. He Sinks. He Sleeps
9. Carnival Time
10. Hurt With Me
11. Lament

In support of the release of 'Scatterbrain' The Xcerts will be hitting the road in support of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. and Futures before headlining their own national tour. Dates below:

The Xcerts debut album 'In The Cold Wind We Smile' is out now on Xtra Mile Recordings! Here's what the press had to say:
"Charged with youthful hope and exuberance, every riff and anthemic chorus points to a bright future for these talented lads." - Kerrang! 4/5
"...this debut is inch-perfect, merging heartstring-tugging delicacy with buoyant distortion... If you're searching for pop with balls but no bullshit, look no further." - Rock Sound 8/10
"'In The Cold Wind We Smile' is a triumphant, life-affirming classic" - Big Cheese 5/5

StringerBessant - Debut Album 'Yard' Out on Xtra Mile Recordings

StringerBessant’s debut album ‘Yard’ is available through Xtra Mile Recordings. ‘Yard’, which was produced by Bruno Ellingham (KT Tunstall, Merz, Delphic) sees both Gary and Jack sharing and swapping vocal and guitar parts on several tracks to sublime effect. Taking their rich, yet subtle, earthy vocals and folk-rooted acoustic guitars and re-arranging them; then planting them in a fertile classic songwriter's imagination, StringerBessant's symbiosis is complete.

STRINGERBESSANT July 2010 by Rich Bull

As members of nineties Brit-rock band Reef, both men have dealt with both sides of being in a successful band, so the stripped down, genuinely soulful and melancholy musical partnership is a perfect vehicle for these contrasting personal, blues-indebted songs. Free from swagger or rock bombast, the performances breathe life into these gentle yet dynamic songs.

Harmonica and lithe lead lines huddle together upon swaying rhythms while Gary and Jack’s tremulous and expressive vocals swim across the top. Harking back to a bygone era where sheer electric melodies swarmed across simple rhythmic accompaniment – when the song mattered; and evoking an ambience was achieved with emotive words and singing rather than lashings of reverb and endless harmonies – StringerBessant have crafted something great, a world away from anything the two men have previously done.

The Xcerts - Release new single ‘Slackerpop’ from their forthcoming Mike Sapone produced album and headline the Xtra Mile Recordings tour!

THE XCERTS have just returned from the US where they have been recording the follow-up to 2009’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘In The Cold Wind We Smile’. The band’s new album was produced by Mike Sapone (Brand New, Public Enemy, Crime in Stereo…) at his home studio in Long Island and mastered by Emily Lazar (whose recent credits include this year’s UK and US chart topping album ‘Contra’ by Vampire Weekend). The first fruits of their labour, single ‘Slackerpop’ will be released on 7th June through Xtra Mile Recordings (Frank Turner, Reuben, Far…) with the album following later in the year.

l_484b414fc8e74fa1993c125272e741dd

The Xcerts second record shows an angrier side to the band’s music which harks back to the early days of 90’s Grunge. It has a brilliantly sinister, dirty and earthy quality without turning its back on the pop-sensibilities and catchy melodies that the band captured so well with their debut. ‘Slackerpop’ and its video which depicts the band dismembering mannequin torsos is a perfect, if not slightly twisted, example of this.

Jaakko & Jay - Debut album - 'War Is Noise'

Finnish duo Jaakko & Jay release their debut album ‘War Is Noise’ on 24th May, through Xtra Mile Recordings.

Embodying the spirit of punk with an acoustic, stripped-back folk approach, Jaakko & Jay have earned a cult following in their home country as well as throughout Europe with a near constant touring schedule. Armed with just one mic, a beaten up acoustic guitar, and a single snare and ride drum set up, travelling in a hired motor-home, J&J have taken their infectious, good-time folk punk to the masses and the masses are starting to take note.

Jaakko & Jay 3 by TolskiPannahinen

Hailing from the region most famous for Santa Claus and reindeer, Jaakko & Jay are more jolly than Father Christmas and more hearty than reindeer steaks. The music throws a high-latitude spin on classic punk themes like drinking, revolution, drinking, making music, drinking, acute social commentary, drinking, and drinking - acoustic songs that shed their simplicity in a live situation by taking the audience in, melting their frosty cynicism, and putting smiles on every last person down to the bouncer.

jaakkoandjaypackshot

Gaining popularity around the UK and Europe supporting Frank Turner, Mariachi El Bronx, Gaslight Anthem, Billy Talent and Chuck Ragan they were also discovered by Radio 1’s Huw Stephens at this year’s Eurosonic. With plenty of summer festivals and tour dates to be announced for later this year, including a slot at Brighton’s premier showcase festival, The Great Escape - their popularity is set to rise even further.

All tour details to follow.

"punked up, acoustic songs with gusto" Kerrang!
"ferocious and impassioned and funny" Distorted Magazine
"Jaakko & Jay come from Finland and are a punk rockin' drums and guitar duo. Their chugging riffs were awesome live” Huw Stephens, BBC1

Fighting Fiction - Brand new single – ‘We Will Not Forget’

logo

Brand new single – ‘We Will Not Forget’
Out 3rd May 2010 on Xtra Mile Recordings

Jacob Glew – Vocals/Acoustic Guitar
Matt Roffe – Guitars/Bass/Backing Vocals
Andy Cooke - Guitars/Bass/Backing Vocals
Adam Wells – Drums/Percussion

Emerging indie-punk four-piece Fighting Fiction release their brand new single ‘We Will Not Forget’ on 3rd May 2010 through Xtra Mile Recordings. A politically aware call to arms, it’s no coincidence that this single release will coincide with the forthcoming general election.

Fighting Fiction - Couch landscape

Not intended as a two-fingered salute to the establishment in the traditional sense of some punk music, rather as a way to incite some pride and anger into a generation coming of voting age. The stress is on the power of the vote in this song, it’s not a call to Anarchy; rather a call of responsibility. To put your politics into action, whatever they might be.

Fighting Fiction formed late 2007 in Bristol when the four lads met at University. Bourne of a mutual passion for energetic live performance, their sound is a powerful collision of Indie-rock guitar riffs, reggae tinged punk and socially aware lyrics. These are songs written with anger and sung with passion. They evoke an honest and fundamentally English sound that is reminiscent of the brooding reggae guitar hooks of 'London Calling' era Clash, the lyrical wordplay and vocal delivery of Billy Bragg, and more recently, the acoustic guitar based sing-along sensibilities of Frank Turner and the King Blues.

Produced by Mark Williams (Biffy Clyro, Bloc Party, Million Dead, Oceansize), ‘We Will Not Forget’ is the bands most aggressive offering to date and will include a free acoustic download ‘Turning Rebellion Into Money.’

To date, the band have released their debut EP ‘A Lesser Of Two Evils’ (November 2009); completed two UK-wide tours, securing slots at both the Isle of Wight and Isle of Man TT festivals, and have played support to the likes of This Town Needs Guns, Crazy Arm, Sam Isaac, Floors and Walls, Laura Marling and The Automatic.

Fighting Fiction hit the road again this April/May on a 20 date UK tour in support of their new single release.

The Xcerts - To be the first UK band to be produced by Mike Sapone (Crime in Stereo, Brand New, Public Enemy…)

“Ludicrously Punchy” – Steve Lamacq
'...classic piece of air-punching melancholia' - Observer

xcertsedit1

THE XCERTS have already kicked 2010 off in style supporting the incredible Fightstar. Later this week they will be heading off to the U.S. to begin work on the follow up to 2009’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘In The Cold Wind We Smile’. Their as-yet-untitled second record will see Long Island based producer Mike Sapone at the helm. Sapone has an impressive track record and has produced records for the likes of Crime in Stereo, Public Enemy and Brand New.

Initial talks about the possibility of Mike Sapone working with The Xcerts came about due to lead singer/guitarist Murray MacLeod’s love for the bands that Sapone has previously worked with. MacLeod said “Mike has produced some of our favourite records and creates unique sounding albums. We are honoured to be the first UK band that he will have produced. To say we are excited is an understatement... We cannot wait for you to hear this record.”

The Xcerts forthcoming album will be released on Xtra Mile Recordings later this year and you can expect to hear the first fruits of their labour in late spring/early summer.

Chris T-T - New Album / New Tour!

LOVE IS NOT RESCUE
New Album – New Tour!

Increasingly influential cult singer Chris T-T returns in spring 2010 with the release of his new album Love Is Not Rescue.

2010 press pic

Released on 15 March 2010 through Xtra Mile Recordings, Love Is Not Rescue is T-T’s 7th studio album since 1999 and his second release for Xtra Mile. It was recorded in four days, primarily in rural Norfolk with Magoo’s Owen Turner (Bearsuit, Kaito) plus a session in Los Angeles with Gus Seyffert (Sia, Norah Jones, Flight Of The Conchords).

‘Love Is Not Rescue’ shows a change of direction from 2008’s rockier, heavier ‘Capital’ (“turbo-charged/grandiose/hummable fire” Q), the final part to his acclaimed London Trilogy. With this album, Chris focuses more on personal themes – love and the complexities of relationships – stripping back his sound and laying bare private lyrics over delicate melodies to create courageous, honest songs from the heart. It is a return to Chris's original visceral yearnings of love and loss; “British pop’s street-poet laureate and unsung genius” (The Sunday Times) has produced a beautifully introspective and pensive album.

The stunning album opener ‘Nintendo’ will precede the release on 8 March as a download only single.

Playing piano, electric and acoustic guitar (although not all at the same time) his UK tour of intimate gigs will highlight Chris’s wide and varied talent that has created a diverse career spanning seven studio albums. The dates are:

Straight Lines - Sign to XMR, release single and tour with KIGH, Automatic and Motorhead!

Sign to Xtra Mile Recordings, Release Debut Single ‘Versus The Allegiance’ and Tour with Kids In Glass Houses, The Automatic and Motorhead!

Straight Lines

Straight Lines was initially conceived by lead vocalist and guitarist Tom Jenkins and drummer Dane Campbell after the demise of their previous band. The Welsh duo set about collating ideas and writing new material that would later form the basis for the band’s debut album. With no money to go to any other studio or producer to record the album they turned to Dane’s brother (and guitarist with local heroes Dopamine) Todd Campbell to play bass and help them produce and record their debut album in his studio situated in the garage of his house. With the help of their friends in other bands they managed to gather enough equipment together to start work on recording. Two weeks into recording the band would then be completed by Tom’s old college friend James Pugh on guitar.

Straight Lines - Versus The Allegiance - Front

Fast forward a few months and Straight Lines are ready to release the first fruits of their labour; ‘Versus The Allegiance’. The hard-hitting single is the first to be lifted from the band’s flawless debut album ‘Persistence In This Game’ which will be released through Xtra Mile Recordings (Frank Turner, The Xcerts, Reuben…) in early 2010. ‘Versus The Allegiance’ will be released through iTunes and all major DSPs on 7th December.

Tracklisting:
1. ‘Versus The Allegiance’
2. ‘When In Doubt’ (Demo)
3. ‘All My Friends Have Joined The Army’ (Acoustic)
4. ‘Visions’ (Acoustic)

Despite the band’s short existence, Straight Lines ability to pen infectious rhythmic anthems has not gone unnoticed and they have already secured forthcoming support slots with Kids In Glass Houses, Young Guns, Attack! Having recently rewarded fans’ loyalty with a very special live album ‘Live At King’s Tut’s’ made available exclusively through iTunes, THE XCERTS are now set to release the third single from their critically acclaimed debut album; ‘In The Cold Wind We Smile’. ‘Nightschool’ - a standout fan favourite in the band’s live set – will be released as a download single on 5th October through Xtra Mile Recordings. The angst-ridden anthem will be backed with an atmospheric remix of ‘Home Vs Home’ by The Blueskies.

The video for ‘Nightschool’ captures the essence of the band’s live set with a raucous performance at a house party. Directed by Ricky Gibb and Richard Watson and shot at lead singer Murray MacLeod’s house at night, the video depicts the preparations for and goings-on at the house party building to a climatic end with the band performing live in the garden.

Frank Turner - New Single, New Album & Tours Galore!

“Heavy-clever wit and wry, do-or-die romantic solidarity of socially superconscious singer-songwriter Billy Bragg by way of Joe Strummer” (Austin Chronicle)

Continuing his meteoric rise to superstardom, Frank Turner will be releasing his brand new download-only single ‘The Road’ on 31st August through Xtra Mile Recordings/Epitaph Records. It’s an immediately catchy slice of sing-a-long folk/punk taken from the stunning forthcoming album ‘Poetry Of The Deed’.

SENDFrankcat

‘Poetry…’ – Frank’s third studio album – is released a week later on 7th September on Xtra Mile Recordings/Epitaph for UK and Ireland and through Epitaph/Xtra Mile Recordings for the rest of the world. Recruiting his outstanding live band for the recording process Frank, along with Grammy nominated producer Alex Newport (Death Cab For Cutie, At The Drive-In, Two Gallants) has captured the essence of his live show onto the record as performing live has always been at the very heart of the Frank Turner experience. The results are a big, lush album that showcases Frank’s growing maturity in song-writing and style perfectly.

‘The Road’ is accompanied by a video of Frank’s quite honestly mental attempt to play 24 shows in 24 hours. This involved posting a request on his blog for a load of London-based places where he could come and play a few songs. Tiny frontrooms and kitchens, roof terraces and warehouses, music magazine offices and a record store were all donated and Frank played them all, culminating at a crowded and raucous finale at North London’s Flowerpot venue.

Frank Turner - The Road

The album release in the USA coincides nicely with a support tour with old friends The Gaslight Anthem in September and in the UK with his largest headline tour to date taking in London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire, for the last night.
